Sources & Research Methodology

Last updated: 16 September 2026

mkb.org.pk cites every factual claim to a source. This page lists all sources used across the site and explains how we research and verify information.

Research methodology

Step 1 — Official primary sources first

We begin with official government sources: Ministry of IT & Telecom announcements, OGRA notifications, official scheme SMS responses (9771), and the official mkb.punjab.gov.pk portal. These are treated as authoritative for facts they directly state.

Step 2 — Corroboration with reputable news

Where primary sources are ambiguous or incomplete, we cross-reference with major Pakistani and international newspapers — Dawn, Geo News / The News International, Gulf News. We note where claims are corroborated by multiple independent sources.

Step 3 — Conflict resolution

Where sources conflict, we:

  • Prioritise the most authoritative source (government notification over news report)
  • Document the conflict explicitly rather than silently choosing one version
  • Flag unresolved conflicts with a warning so readers can verify independently

Step 4 — Uncertain or unverified claims

Where we cannot find reliable confirmation, we do not publish the claim as fact. We either omit it or publish it with an explicit uncertainty notice. Examples:

  • Province codes other than Sindh = S are not published as a table — they are unverified
  • pmfuelrelief.pk is not listed as an official registration channel — its status is contested
  • SMS code 786 is flagged as unofficial-only — not listed as a registration instruction
